FANTASTIC FILM 3: A Matter of Life & Death (PG)

Directed by Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger

Part of Cheltenham Film Society's FANTASTIC FILMS WEEKEND.

Representing the rich British tradition of the fantastical, A Matter of Life and Death is a spectacular drama from Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Pilot Peter Carter (David Niven) is flying home from a bombing raid when he is forced to jump into the Channel with no parachute. A weird celestial glitch finds him trapped between life and death, so he is forced to appeal to a heavenly court for the right to stay alive, with help from a young American airwoman and a mischievous French emissary from the other world. Released in 1946 and shot by Jack Cardiff, the first great master of Technicolor, this is British cinema at its most patriotic and life-affirming.

Book to see all four FANTASTIC FILMS on Saturday 30 March for just £20. Book to see all eight FANTASTIC FILMS this weekend for just £36!

FANTASTIC FILMS are not part of the standard Playhouse multi-film discount scheme.
