FILM: Stormy Weather (U)

Directed by Andrew L Stone

Dancing great Bill Williamson sees his face on the cover of Theatre World magazine and reminisces: just back from World War I, he meets lovely singer Selina Rogers at a soldiers' ball and promises to come back to her when he "gets to be somebody." Years go by, and Bill and Selina's rising careers intersect only briefly, since Selina is unwilling to "settle down." Will she ever change her mind?

This film showcases the greatest African-American performers of the 1930s and 1940s with a cast that includes Lena Horne, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, Cab Calloway, Fats Waller and the Nicholas Brothers. There are 20 musical numbers and tap routines with such famous songs as Stormy Weather and Ain't Misbehavin' featuring prominently.

This film is part of CHELTENHAM FILM SOCIETY's special one-day event JAZZ AT THE MOVIES. Each individual film costs £7 but there are discounts for purchasing tickets for more than one film – two films will cost £12, three films £15 and all four films £20. Discounts will apply automatically when purchasing online. CHELTENHAM FILM SOCIETY members are entitled to different pricing structures but must purchase their tickets via the society.
